Urban Dreams
Advice on fundraising for a user-driven leisure and cultural centre for young people in UrbanPlanen
For Partnerskabet/Den boligsociale helhedsplan in Urbanplanen on Amager
2018-2019
Among young men in deprived neighbourhoods across major European cities, many feel they have to spend time outside because there is no physical or cultural space to spend time at home. But outside they experience a lack of warmth, shelter, sexual space and content in their everyday lives. Instead, many end up in social problems and crime, causing great insecurity for others.
The youth initiative Urban Dreams wanted to change this by building a temporary leisure and cultural centre that solves the basic need for shelter and shelter and creates space for social experiments that can give young people a better future! The dream is a 100 m2 self-built space in a corner of Englandsparken - because:
1. Young people from Urbanplanen have a connection to the place
2. The neighbourhood renewal initiative ‘Young people create urban spaces’
3. There is the least noise nuisance for neighbours. The park is beautifully surrounded by hedges that shield against noise and social control. The open grass areas intended for free recreation are not used by many people, even though there is a playground and toilet.
The project received DKK 799,310 in funding from Realdania's Underværker programme.
